Ballard Seafood Fest is an annual festival in Seattle that celebrates Ballard’s historic connection to the fishing industry and its Nordic roots. In order to help visitors discover activities, explore events, and find amenities, we crafted a set of 10 symbols that reflect Ballard’s authentic, quirky charm.
Throughout the process, our main challenge was to improve legibility by simplifying the symbols while retaining certain level of detail for them to still look sophisticated. We also focused on unifying the set by working closely together and using the same stylistics, color palette, perspective, grid, and elements that serve as building blocks.
Our final poster showcases the symbols in varied sizes (big, medium, small, and tiny) and two distinct styles (solid & outlined). Out symbols can be utilized in many ways during the actual event—as signages to guide visitors, as icons on a physical or digital event map, and as merchandise for sale.
